Description
The Starboard Take Off carbon has been completely renewed. The relatively short shapes of these high performance boards ensure that the board is extremely manoeuvrable and playful. The boards are built from blue carbon for maximum performance.
The board has become a bit thicker, with the deck you are standing on a lot deeper. This ensures that it is very stable for maximum control through better balance. It also makes the board feel much more immediate.
The shape on the underside of the board has also been updated considerably, using the experiences with the Starboard X-15 racing wingboard. Better aerodynamics, faster take-off provide even more airtime.
The Starboard Take Off is available in the following sizes;
- Length 4’7″ / 140 cm | Width 22″ / 55.9 cm | Volume 55 litres | Weight 4.9 kg
- Length 4’10” / 147 cm | Width 23″ / 58.4 cm | Volume 65 litres | Weight 5.4 kg
- Length 5’0″ / 152 cm | Width 24.5″ / 62.2 cm | Volume 75 Liters | Weight 5.9 kg
- Length 5’3″ / 160 cm | Width 25.5″ / 64.8 cm | Volume 85 Liters | Weight 6.1 kg
- Length 5’5″ / 165 cm | Width 26.5″ / 67.3 cm | Volume 95 Liters | Weight 7.1 kg
The boards will be delivered including 3 soft footstraps and a protective board sock.
Which size to choose?
If you are a novice wingfoiler, choose a board with a volume of; your own weight + approx. 20 liters of volume. If you are more advanced, you can quickly purchase a smaller board. The smaller the board, the more ‘playful’ and free wing foiling feels.
Our experiences with the Starboard Take Off:
- The 5’5″ has extremely good straight-line stability and is therefore also very suitable for racing and freeracing. You can push the board a lot. The stability gives confidence to go just a little bit faster. Foilsufing on longer waves also goes very well
- From the 5’0″ and smaller, the emphasis is on freestyle, carving and making fast moves. In these sizes, playfulness predominates
- The 5’3″ is literally and figuratively between the 5’5″ and the 5’0″. This board has a clearly better straight-line stability and with that board you can really go fast. If you want to carve or waveride, this is also possible. In that respect, we find the 5’3″ to be the most versatile.
Which wingfoil?
You will have the best performance with the Starboard Take Off if you use foils with a front wing that is no larger than 1100 cm2. We have tested the following wingfoils under the Starboard Take Off and are a good match:
- Starboard E-type MKII, good mix between freeride and carving
- Starboard Glider MKII, perfect for downwinds and wave riding on longer waves
- AK Tracer V3, makes the set up a bit more technical and challenging, with extreme response
Want to test the Starboard Take Off yourself?
We have the Starboard Take Off 5’3″ and 5’5″ available as test boards in our test center. If you have any questions or would like to make a test appointment, please send us an email.
