Description

The Freewing Air Team is a new performance freeride/freestyle model. To keep the construction extremely light and rigid, high-tech materials have been used. The Air Team is available in sizes 3.0 m2 to 6.0 m2. For the even larger sizes, there’s the Air Team Lightwind.

The result is a wing that feels light, has a lot of (low end) power with an extremely stable profile:

  • If you want maximum handling, choose a 1/2 size smaller, the wing gives more power than average wings
  • If you want maximum speed, choose the size you have in mind or 1/2 size larger. The Air Team wings provide an extreme amount of propulsive power, while the pressure point remains very stable.

Air Team Technical Specifications

  • Airframe is made from next generation Ho’okipa; Ho’o kipa Ultra PE. This material allows the airframes to handle more pressure, resulting in a stiffer construction.
  • Due to the higher pressure (up to 18 PSI!), the airframes are thinner, so the resistance is less and the wing is lighter
  • The fabric is made of the exclusive Ultra X Canopy. This fabric is not only lighter, but also stronger and lasts much longer than traditional fabric.
  • As standard, the Air Team comes with carbon pre-pet handles of only 100 grams each.
  • The shape of the wing is optimized for maximum handling, ergonomics and minimum drag.

The wing comes with:

  • Wing with comfortable wing leash
  • Handy storage backpack to which the pump can also be attached
  • Carbon pre-preg handles

Tuning the Team Air

Because the Team Air can handle such high pressure, this gives a lot of room to ‘play’ with the pressure that goes into main strut / Leading edge. In particular, the pressure in the main strut strongly influences the performance of the wing in the various wind conditions.

With a lot of wind, you want a profile that is as stiff as possible to keep the pressure point as stable as possible. With little wind, you want there to be some flex in the main strut, which allows you to pump more effectively. In addition, with little wind, it is also nice if the pressure point slides back slightly, giving you a good feeling of power.

We have already tested the Team Air extensively in various wind conditions and this is our advice:

  • Center strut, always inflate to maximum recommended pressure
  • By pressing the rubber hose that connects the main strut and center strut together, you can play with the main strut.
  • For low winds, our advice is a pressure that is about 4 to 7 PSI lower than maximum recommended pressure
  • For a lot of wind, our advice is to keep about 0 to 2 PSI lower than maximum recommended pressure
  • Too much pressure creates a ‘dead’ feeling in the wing
