Testing material Starboard, Fanatic, RRD, Severne, Naish and Duotone
During the wind foil step up days, the importers of Starboard, Severne, Fanatic, Dutone and Naish are present with the latest material for 2020 (there is also windsurfing equipment). Our partner Van den Berg Surf is also present with material from RRD to test. There are also wing foils available to test. If there is not enough wind, the wind foil step day will move on for 1 week (to Sunday 24 May).
Set up clinics wind foiling during step up day
Special for the wind foil step up day we organize 3 wind foil clinics for which you can sign up in both morning and afternoon.
Times wind foil clinics
- Clinic 1: start 10:30 – until 12:00
- Clinic 2: start 1pm – until 2:30 p.m.
- Clinic 3: start 15:00 – until 4:30 p.m.
In order to start right away, it is important that you already have your wetsuit on before the clinic starts and that you have already rigged your material (read: sail). Consult with the instructor in advance what is a suitable sail for the clinic. You can change in the changing rooms of the windsurfing club and after the lesson you can shower.
Rent rigging, suit and shoes
If you don’t have a suitable rigging, you can rent this from us for only €16,-. You can also rent a suit and shoes for only € 7.50. If booking the training, we’ll reserve this for you.
Maximum number of people per group
In our groups, up to 5 people participate in the lessons at the same time. This allows us to give everyone enough attention to master the wind foiling.
If the wind expectation is between 10 and 20 knots, the clinics continue. If the wind expectation is less or more, we unfortunately have to cancel the clinics. We will send you a message by SMS or email about this the night before the lesson (around 6:00 p.m.). The wind foil entry day will be rescheduled a week later (Sunday 24 May), so book that date!
At Haddock water sports there is an opportunity to have a lunch (lunch is not included in rate), inside or on the sun terrace.
The lessons take place in Almere Haven near Haddock Water sports.
The address is: Gooimeerdijk West, Surfstrand Haven 2, 1353 CT Almere Haven. Phone number: 06-12138112
The set up of the wind foil clinic is as follows;
- Start with explanations about the operation of wind foils
- You will be instructed about your posture during wind foiling and how you will fly
- Most of the lessons take place naturally on the water, where you learn;
- How to get your board up in the air as soon as possible
- How to keep stability during wind foiling
- How to make an emergency stop (very important to learn, flying is something very different than planning :))
We’ll give you the guarantee that you’re making the 1st flight meters on the wind foil. You can stick to that!
The group consists of up to 5 participants. The instructor goes up the water with you and guides you on the water. Wearing a helmet is mandatory during the clinics. The use of a helmet is included in the price.
Tip for rigging during lessons
On average, wind foiling makes you use a sail that is 1 m2 smaller than you’re used to on your surfboard. With wind force 4 you can already use a 6.5 m2 to get some great wind foils. In addition, learning to wind with a sail without cambers is the easiest. Please note this when you bring your own material for the wind foil step-up day.
To learn to wind foil it is important that you master the following parts of windsurfing. These skills you need to get the wind foil into the air in a good way and also control the wind foil and the rig in the air.
What should you be able to do at least:
- Planing (on a board without dagger)
- Standing in the foot straps
- Can plan on a board with up to 140 litres of volume
- Be able to pump your board into plane
If you do not control the above parts or not sufficiently, then unfortunately we cannot guarantee that you will actually learn the wind foil during the course. Starting with a private slalom sailing is a good preparation for this course.
Experience shows that students experience learning wind foils as very intensive. A good (windsurfing) condition is therefore very important to be able to get the most out of the wind foil lessons
You’re not losing windsurfing, every windsurfer knows that. However, the ‘windsurfing condition’ and the ‘windsurfing feeling’ can sink away if you haven’t surfed for a long time. Learning to wind up is not very difficult in itself, but we have now noticed that it helps if you have recently (less than a 1/2 years) still sailed on a funboard. Our advice is: If you haven’t surfed in a long time and you want to learn to wind foil, we recommend that you first rent a (light weather) funboard and ‘get in’ again.
- With 2 sessions at most, you really have the windsurfing feeling back
- The wind foil lessons last 1 hour, make sure that condition is enough to sustain this, often on the arms
- In any case, when practicing, focus on getting into planee as quickly as possible and stand smoothly in the (front) footband
If, as described above, you are well prepared for a wind foil lesson, then you have much more fun and you learn to wind up much easier.
